Kenya
From the famous Masai Mara to the unexplored Matthews range and everything inbetween, Kenya has something for everyone. Explore the animal rich plains, or embark on a quest for mythical creatures such as the black leopard..
Day 1 Nairobi
Arrive into Nairobi. There are plenty of great places to stay after your international flights, the most impressive of which is undoubtedly Giraffe Manor (early booking is essential here). Other great options include the grand Hemingways hotel in the suburb of Karen and Ololo Lodge which is inside Nairobi National Park for an instant wildlife fix.
Days 2-4 Masai Mara
The Masai Mara. For a first time safari enthusiast, the plains of the Masai Mara, and the inevitable drama that plays out on them, are an unmissable draw. Huge concentrations of animals all trying to survive and thrive promises action packed days full of unforgettable and often emotive sightings. There are quieter, less explored corners of the Masai Mara that are more of a draw for those wishing to enjoy an element of the unknown and solitude in this famous park. The Mara Triangle is a quieter area and houses the impressive Angama Lodge, perched on the escarpment commanding a superb view of the drama unfolding on the plains below. They also have an excellent safari camp that explores unknown corners of the reserve. A great alternative closer to the main park but situated in a private concession (meaning walks and night drives are a possibility) are the Serian properties. More removed again from the main park is Mara Plains, a very high quality offering from Great Plains run by the Jouberts.
Days 5-7 Laikipia/ Lewa /Samburu
This is when a real sense of adventure starts to kick in. Heading north from the Mara and up into the central Kenyan highlands surrounding Mount Kenya is a real change in scenery. There are lots of option here, each appeals and will suit different people, so it is imperative to talk through your wants and needs with us. As an example, this is when (and where!) we could head off on a quest to see the unbelievably rare (though surprisingly reliable if you know where to look and put in the effort) Black Leopard. Or if hanging around with Wild dogs watching their incredible hunting strategies and the care they take of their puppies is more your thing, we can focus on that. Or if you have a thing for elephants, you can get up close and personal and hear about different families life histories, this is the time. Or for a well rounded balance of more game and the chance to take in some of the cultural aspect of the Samburu, Lewa could be the place to go. So many options…
